Preacher in my truck

Desperate for a drink, a newcomer reaches out to a stranger who ends up saving the day

One morning I woke up with an overpowering urge to drink.  I needed something—anything to relieve my intense anxiety and craving. All I could think about was satisfying that desire. I lived in the mountains about 45 minutes from town and I had no phone. I didn’t know what to do except freak out. Then I recalled something the old-timers in meetings had told me. “If worse comes to worst, go talk to someone newer than you.”
