Thirst for adventure

A footloose bohemian sobers up and hits the road and discovers things she never imagined

I was blessed to grow up in a loving family. We lived on a tight budget. My parents took my brother and me exploring within the range of our feet and our little car. But when I picked up that first drink at age 19, I felt a brand-new freedom and fancied myself quite the footloose bohemian. I thought I had discovered the magic elixir. I could talk to boys in ways I never could as a nerdy, arty, hippie kind of girl growing up in a small town in Massachusetts.
