I came to realize I had a problem with alcohol a little over a year ago. “Came to realize I had a problem”—yeah, right! I am a full-blown alcoholic, that’s more like it. I was in denial and hiding from the truth and myself. I hurt those around me and really didn’t care. All that mattered was me and my next drink. I have always drank for as long as I can remember. My parents drank, their friends drank, and it was "normal" at our house. I was surprised to see other people lived differently than we did. That’s when I learned to keep your dirty laundry in my closet. As a young girl, I held many secrets that were not my own.
