Evolving

When I first got to AA, I had trouble with God being referred to as “Him” and “Father.” I’m not a Christian, so I was uncomfortable with the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer at the end of meetings. It made me feel I didn’t belong. It also may cause Jews, Moslems, Hindus, Unitarians, pagans and those of other faiths to not come back. And we all need to keep coming back. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. I think saying the Lord’s Prayer should be a matter of group conscience.
