Thank you, Ann Landers...

A famous advice columnist planted the seed of AA in his head—but discovering his Higher Power ensured the program would stay in his heart

Having lived my childhood in the 1950’s and my teens in the 1960’s, my knowledge that AA existed came from being an avid reader of Ann Landers’ advice column in my local daily newspaper. She regularly urged her readers to familiarize themselves with both AA and Al-Anon groups in their area. At that time I figured that advice did not apply to me. Encountering that advice so frequently though, I couldn’t help but take mental note and file it away for future reference.
