The Chickens

As a newcomer attends her first meeting in her small town, a flock of friendly chickens puts her mind, and heart, at ease

I put my car in park after pulling into my church’s familiar parking lot. Although I came here every Sunday with no problem, it had taken me three weeks to work up the courage to come to the weekly A.A. meeting I knew was held there. This wasn’t my first time trying to quit drinking, but it felt different than before. I couldn’t white-knuckle it any longer and was beginning to feel desperate. I turned off the car and got out before I could change my mind.
