It was the early summer of 1979 when I made the impetuous decision to pick up my first drink. I recall that day quite distinctively because the “perfect little world” that I had been living in was intensely shattered by the voices of both parents screaming the “D” world: divorce. I felt as if my heart had been broken into a million pieces. For the first time in my life, I was completely lost within myself. My sense of who I thought I was no longer existed. So I attempted to become invincible to the human race at the young age of 13.
