A member with 60 years sober recalls the night it all began

Sixty years ago, I went to see the movie “I’ll Cry Tomorrow,” about Lillian Roth. She was an actress and an alcoholic. That was a July night in 1956. It was showing at the old Metro Theater on Bree Street in Johannesburg, South Africa. The movie made me look at my life and I began to stop drinking that day. It was the beginning of my sobriety. Shortly after that, I had my last bender.
