Around 18 months of sobriety, I was coming to realize I had other areas in my life that I tended to practice excess instead of moderation. The most glaring one was problems in romantic relationships. I felt some of the old unmanageability from my drinking days, but I didn't have the desperation or willingness to change. After I quit smoking cigarettes, I also noticed that I would overeat to numb my feelings.
