According to the U.S. government’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020,individuals who do not drink alcohol should not start drinking for any reason, as a growing body of research connects alcohol consumption to cancer. In fact, in itsReport on Carcinogens, the National Toxicology Program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services lists consumption of alcoholic beverages as a known human carcinogen, along with tobacco use.
