Three days sober and he didn’t know a soul. Until he raised his hand

When I entered the hall for the first time, it was cool and only about half filled. But the seats along the walls, on either side of the big desk in the middle, were packed. Most of the chairs in between were empty.  Determined not to sit in the last row, I took a seat in the row second to last.
