Sober since 1968, she recalls her start in AA and remembers how brave the earliest members were

I got sober at the Down to the Earth Group in the Bronx on December 2, 1968. Since I was encouraged to go to a meeting every day, I soon added another primary group, the Washington Heights Group, which had a Step meeting every Thursday night. That’s where I “cut my spiritual teeth.” The group had old-timers with more than 20 years of sobriety. The advice these people provided was always clear, practical and helpful.
