A former inmate’s eloquent plea for help and service to America’s prisons

My sobriety date is March 7, 1997.  I was incarcerated in 1997 to a Level 2 Indiana DOC Facility and served three years.  Are my sobriety date and my date of incarceration a coincidence?  I think not.  By my second year inside all the old excuses, self-pity and self-deception were almost completely gone.  I finally knew I needed to be exactly where I was and deserved every minute of it, plus some. But, what would I do after my release?  Would I go back to my old way of life?  I always had.
