Advanced Sobriety 101

His pain was like a compass, pointing due north to the healing work that needed to be done

As I sit here writing this with thirteen years of sobriety, I’m in incredible pain and heartbreak over a fresh breakup and loss of a relationship with a woman that I really love a lot. I am writing this because the format at my home group says that our experience will always benefit others if we are willing to share. She and I were like two fish swimming side by side in a stream and in my estimation perfect for each other in every way, except for where we are in life and where each of us wants to go. At the base level we just want different things and it simply feels that we aren’t supposed to be together, so we have decided to go our separate ways.
