Just for today, sobriety is enough for an ex-cop with a tough drinking story

In my teenage years, alcohol helped me to fit in, feel accepted, and be the life of any party. As I continued through early adulthood, I became a binge drinker, always drinking to excess when an event allowed. My divorce at 37 years old helped my alcoholism completely take over. For the first time in my life, I was in a home completely by myself, with nothing but me to deal with. My thoughts and my feelings welled up and alcohol became my answer to push them right back down where they belonged. I eventually found myself in legal trouble with a DUI and in an alcohol rehabilitation facility. Now almost 8 years since my last drink of alcohol, I finally realize what life is all about.
