Fifty-five years sober, she is the very definition of a “sober survivor”

I started drinking at the age of four, and it’s no wonder. Parents, family, friends, and neighbors all drank. I was taught to greet visitors, take their coats, and mix them a drink. The only caution was: “Don’t serve them the good stuff if they are already three sheets in the wind.” It was the norm in this area of suburban Chicago. For me, alcohol use was like brushing your teeth.
