The Hummingbird

It took a trapped and fragile creature to remind her that trust was essential to her sobriety

I’ve had many amazing experiences in my journey in sobriety. In the two years since getting sober, I’ve had three surgeries and I didn’t desire a drink, which for an alcoholic like me is amazing. You’d think that alone would be convincing enough to keep me in a state of constant willingness to seek and do my Higher Power’s will. Sadly, though, I sometimes forget the vast blessings and get lost in the particulars of a situation, forgetting to trust God and to live life on life’s terms. It was while recuperating from an abdominal surgery that I had a moment of clarity, what people in AA call a “God shot.” It was a beautiful November day in Scottsdale, Arizona. The temperatures had finally dropped below 100 degrees. It had only been two weeks since my last surgery and I had been stuck in the hospital or my home for those two weeks. Thankfully, my sponsor and my home group had been visiting and bringing meetings to me.
