To escape the hell she was living in, she put herself in “the middle of AA.” She’s still there

I was always told by my father growing up, “If you drink like me, you will become an alcoholic like me, and you will die of cirrhosis of the liver! At least make sure you eat something because it will slow the whole process down.” Alcohol made every decision in my life as far back as I can recall. I don’t remember how old I was when I took that first drink, but I do remember knowing I loved the feeling and thinking I would do anything to have it again. The rules never applied to me, is what I thought. I was unique, and I played Russian roulette with my life and the lives of others for many years to come.
