Serendipitous Jewel

The “Society of Second Chances” saved his life the third time around

With a penchant for classic 1970s rock, I was racking my brain to choose a tune from that era that best encapsulates my alcoholism. My second sponsor Dixie, whom I met in 2000, had 39 years sober and maintained his daily sobriety until 2015, passing away with 54 years. Dixie drilled into my brain that I have a progressive fatal incurable disease. If left untreated, I'll die an untimely death. The Blind Faith song “Can't Find My Way Home” pretty much covers it—wasted, searching for home. Powerful and poignant lyrics.
