It Was All Worth It

Being a single mom and a beginner wasn’t easy. But it was worth every Step

As I reflect on the last 25 years of my journey in AA, I think back to my early recovery. Within my first 90 days I became a single mom. My girls were only 7 and 4 and I thought to myself: “How am I going to do this?” With the help of my sponsor, my support group of other young moms and the program of AA, I succeeded, one day at a time. I went to several meetings a day, I was on the phone constantly, I did the Steps and read the Big Book. And yet there were days that I kept wondering whether it was all worth it. Was I shortchanging my children? Was I there for them enough? Did I give them the love and support young girls needed? I had faith in my Higher Power and I kept putting one foot in front of the other and doing the work.
