A visit to a liquor store inspires a prayer of gratitude for sobriety

I was in the liquor store with my son on Christmas Eve this past year. He wanted a bottle of wine. As it had been a long time since I had been in a liquor store, I was utterly amazed at the variety of alcoholic beverages available. The beer case alone was as big as my garage and there were aisle upon aisle of whiskey, scotch, and tequila. The selection of wine was equally impressive. I took a moment to thank God that I was satisfied with the brightly colored bottle of sparkling grape juice in my hand and no longer was crawling through a life of gritty alcoholism.
