My drinking career began in high school. I never drank to blackout though until I moved to New York City. Due to the loneliness I felt in this metropolis of eight million people, I began to dread the long nights. I knew from anxiety-producing business lunches that a drink or two could settle my nerves and make for a more palpable meal.
