Fired Once a Year

By the grace of God and the Fellowship of AA, I am in my 42nd year of continuous sobriety. I was Twelfth Stepped into the program by a woman named Betty. She had a year of sobriety at the time and was in charge of my company’s Employee Assistance Program. My drinking was discovered when I arrived at work every day smelling like an open bottle of vodka. Betty took me to my first AA meeting, which I didn’t like. I believed everyone there was directing their comments toward me.
