In a long life of sobriety the difficult challenges do come and go, but the good times are so worth it all

In early May of 1975, I was a textbook case of an alcoholic in a state of pitiful and incomprehensible demoralization. My then girlfriend had threatened to leave me if I didn’t do something about my drinking. In the previous months my mother died, and I’d gotten a divorce. I was fired from my job and left the state to find a new life back in my old hometown.
