My struggle with alcoholism began sixty years ago, when I was 15. I was standing next a grave occupied by a good friend of my brother Paul’s. Maggoo, as he was called, had been squashed by a log that broke loose from a stack as he was prepping it for a trip to a lumber mill. I thought that going to his funeral was an opportunity for me to drive with my permit.
