Centered in AA
When I first came in I kept hearing "You’re as happy as you want to be,” and, "Misery is optional." And I hated it. I thought I was a tragic hero (I had gotten that idea sometime in college and hadn’t given it up). I had no concept of being the architect of my own life. Before AA, I had really just drifted, trying to find a place where I felt loved, safe, and taken care of. I was like a leaf blowing in the wind, sometimes clinging briefly to something more stable, then being tossed again through the air, landing wherever the wind took me.
