Twenty years of drinking left him literally scarred, but active recovery brought him to peaceful sobriety and a chance to journey around the world
My first drink, back in 1975, was at the age of 16 at a prestigious all boys boarding school outside of Washington DC. At the time, I was in my junior year. A schoolmate was able to secure a half gallon of vodka from the liquor store near the campus. We passed the bottle around and drank until our curfew time. I made it into the dorm and my head was spinning.
