He astonished the old-timers by boiling it all down to a simple phrase. That can’t be right, they thought. But it worked for him

This is a story of the power one gets from coming to meetings. In the early 80’s I attended a men’s meeting in central New Jersey. The meeting was in a small basement room of a Catholic church and usually attended by 8 to 12 men. It was a meeting type I’ve seldom found. The meeting started by the chairperson asking if there was anyone who had not heard “How it Works” at least three times this week. If there wasn’t he said “Good--who’s got a topic for discussion?” If not, he read “How it Works,” then asked who wanted to start.
