A surprise challenge at a sober dance was just the start of her journey back to joy
It was October 28, 1988, my 21st birthday. I was at an AA Halloween dance in Nashville, Tennessee. And I was sober. It was my very first time at a dance without the aid of a drink and I was paralyzed with fear. I just wanted to fit in and have fun, but I didn’t have a clue how to do so without being drunk.
