Better than I deserve?
Does maintaining my sobriety and working the Steps “earn” me respect, even happiness? Am I expected to “man up and put up” with whatever circumstances arise?
When I ask someone in AA how they are doing, I sometimes receive the response, “Better than I deserve.” After more than 28 years sober in the Fellowship, I have come to dislike that response.
