A mom they can rely on

She tried to be a good parent, but liquor owned her. Now she’s someone her children can trust

I lied about it for a while, to everyone—and to myself—about when exactly my drinking went off the rails. I told everyone that it was after “the incident” with my son. But that wasn’t necessarily the truth. The truth was that my drinking had started to spiral out of control three years before that, right after my second child was born. I was 30 then.
