Glad we took the steps
I pointed to the AA sign and said, “Let’s go up there” My dad said, “Oh, no.”
When we got home, I told my mother about this and she remarked, “Oh yes, your father needs to go up there.”

When I was a boy, my dad had periods of unemployment. When he wasn’t working, he would take me and my brother to New York City for our birthdays. He’d drive in from our home on Long Island. We did this at least twice.
