God Was Not On My Radar

The act of seeking and even denial, painful as it was, brought him ultimately to his Higher Power

God was not on my radar when I was first introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous. In fact, I was quite blindsided by the whole concept. That first introduction to AA was through the reading of the Big Book for a book report I had to write while in treatment. It was very difficult for me, and I almost couldn't finish reading the book. I didn't even want to hold it and I expressed my dislike for it to my wife on many occasions. At the time I was so adamantly against organized religion that even the term “God” was very distasteful to me and I wouldn't even say it. Little did I know that religion doesn’t have anything to do with it. I was not able to grasp the idea of my own conception of God.
