A delegate recalls waking up with the birds at the very first virtual General Service Conference

My last five years of drinking were filled with depression, fear and loneliness. Every night I prayed to die in my sleep. Every morning when I woke up, I experienced a split-second of peace of mind. I loved that moment. But soon I’d remember everything, and the constant depression would engulf me. My morning prayer was, “This is your idea, God, not mine. Please get me through the day.”
