Service & self-esteem

The writer of “The Mop Will Set You Free” describes how much lies and secrets ruled his life and how much his drinking made it worse, disappointing everyone in his life. By the time he got to AA, he was so withdrawn and his self-esteem was nearly gone. Luckily, his sponsor got him into service and he started to feel better about himself. He learned about showing up and estimable acts. One night after mopping his AA meeting place, he writes, “I felt a sense of purpose for the first time in a long, long time.”
