Dan’s Night

At one of my early meetings, a deep-voiced elder put his arm around my shoulder and said quietly, “We’re going to help you get sober and one day you’ll help others.” For a guy like me who teared up at his first meeting when he read “God doesn’t make junk” on the church basement wall, to feel I would some day be useful was one of the moments I remember leading me toward hope and continuing sobriety.
