Coming into AA, she found comfort in community and sobriety

If you saw me nine years ago, you’d have seen an older woman with a good job, a house paid off, and a relatively happy marriage. I looked successful and most days contented. So when I told my family I was going into an outpatient treatment program for alcoholism, they were totally shocked. I’d kept my drinking and its effects on me a secret, one I practiced in plain sight. Because I looked so good on the outside, no one was aware of the hollowness I felt.
