When getting sober, we redefine fun. For her, it’s joy, contentment and authentic belly laughs

I have watched a few precious young people coming into our program lately. They stay sober a few weeks or months, then drink because they don’t understand how they can have fun without drinking. It’s just a bizarre concept to them. They get into social situations, whether by choice or necessity, and revert back almost instantly to the delusion that the bright lights of fun are just beyond the next drink, when indeed the bright lights are spinning from the top of a police car.
