A Profound Kinship

“We have to go tonight. Tonight’s the night to go,” my friend Adam said as we drove from Ghent to Berlin. We were only about halfway through what would be an eight-hour car ride, and I had been gazing tenderly over the ambers , golds, and pinks of the German countryside out the window. Adam and a Belgian friend who had joined us were chattering excitedly over the past hour, and I was just tuning in again.
