He thought he was only “sort of” an alcoholic—until he took the Steps necessary to admit he was powerless

I had a very difficult time staying sober, even when I went to AA meetings. Sure, I was increasingly drinking way too much beer and whiskey, but while I truly felt that I might be “sort of” alcoholic, I was certainly not like my father, brother or other members of my extended family. But then I was diagnosed as a late stage, chronic alcoholic by two professionals. And I became a blackout drinker and could not hold down a job for the last eight years of my drinking.
