Laundry day
When he got out of the detox program, he began going to AA meetings. He soon began to smile more and return to the son I knew. I wanted desperately to stop drinking myself.
One day, while doing my son’s laundry, I found what looked like a homemade plastic baggie in one of his pockets. It was small and clear, and I was pretty sure I knew what it was for, but my head was in the sand because of my own bad habits. I was afraid to confront the situation, so I said nothing. As I sat back and watched my son’s life get out of control and self-destruct, I also sat back and continued to numb my own life with alcohol.
