Embracing life on life’s terms was essential to her sobriety

My recovery story begins in November 2019, when I came to in a booking jail cell. But first let's discuss how I got there. I first walked in the doors of AA at the age of 15, nineteen years ago. I knew then I was an alcoholic but the pain wasn't bad enough make me face life on life’s terms, so I continued drinking while trying everything but recovery to get through. Through all the changes in my life—moving, multiple failed relationships, getting married becoming a mother and getting divorced—I knew there was a solution but it wasn't my solution. I was determined to prove I could handle drinking.
