Close Call at the Wedding

During my initial two months in AA, I had great difficulty with Step Two, which I referred to as “that Higher Power thing.” I took my sponsor’s suggestion and made the Manhattan Group of AA my Higher Power, but privately, I knew that wouldn’t work. Eventually, I went along with the “Group of Drunks” G.O.D. concept. I “acted as if” I had a Higher Power because I wanted to make my sponsor happy. But I didn’t believe in God.
