How did he come to be called Ralphie Donuts? It’s a classic AA transformation…

On the surface, I have led a very middle class life in the suburbs—a split-level house with a big back yard, two kids, a boy and a girl, who my wife and I raised and nurtured from kindergarten through graduate school. Eventually the kids left home, got married and now live good lives largely independent of their parents. And so it became just my wife and myself alone in the house. As we entered our sixties, we cut back on our working hours, so both of us had more free time.
