He said he was an alcoholic but didn’t believe it. The Steps convinced him otherwise

In my First Step, I had to concede to my innermost self that I was an alcoholic. How did I do that? I was pretty convinced that my life was crazy and alcohol had something to do with it—but an alcoholic? I didn’t think so. The Big Book says that “to them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one.” That was me, all right. My daily drinking and violent eruptions were “normal,” but I figured if I had the right job, the right girlfriend, the right book, that things would change in my life.
