Sober in Boston

At the end of my drinking, everything had a beery haze around it: my work at the Harvard Square bookstore or waiting for my break so I could have a quick draft or two with lunch or dinner. Falling asleep in my graduate school classes. Trying and failing to write songs. Alcohol came everywhere with me—to the laundromat, to the movies, riding shotgun in friends’ cars.
