A Letter From My Father

A long-ago missive from an absent parent makes all the difference

My story begins some 50 years ago.  I was born in Western New York and lived in my grandparent’s home.  My father and mother split up shortly after I was born, and he returned to his homeland of England.  I never knew him, and as I looked back on his departure later in life, some part of me blamed myself for being not good enough to convince him to stay.  From the start, I became driven by the feeling that I needed to prove to the world that I was worth something, that I was not a failure.
