Saying Goodbye

I met my soon-to-be step-father when I was just 10 years old. That first afternoon, he taught me how to play darts. He also poured a mildly alcoholic drink into a shot glass and gave me my first drink. It wasn't that bad—like ginger ale with a bite. Soon, he, my mother, and I would go on adventures like camping, fishing, hiking, shooting, playing laser tag, and orienteering. He taught me a lot about the outdoors and I shot my first pistol with him when I was 11.
