Building bridges

How getting involved with area committees strengthened her awareness of AA unity and inclusiveness

I got sober in December of 2006. I spent my first two years of sobriety in Spain, where I had lived for 33 years. My home group was Spanish-speaking. During early sobriety, I was introduced to a publication called “Akron 1935.” The editions of this publication were put out by the Junta de Servicios Generales de AA in Spain. And, like La Viña here in the U.S., an alcoholic could submit their experiences, opinions and stories for publication. At that time, reading those stories carried the message of AA to my heart and gave me the strength to get through a tough time.
