Always With Me

A member recalls getting sober in D.C. in the 1970s and how he got there with God’s grace

I came from a small town in Virginia where life for most Black people was extremely hard. Jim Crow laws and segregation were in full swing. Drinking alcohol and drunkenness was accepted as part of life when I was a kid. Many of my family members and friends in our community died from drinking.
